About the Associate Editor
Dr. Santiago T. Peña, Jr. graduated Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Cum Laude at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Visayas State University, placing 3rd in the Veterinary Medicine Licensure Examination (VMLE). He is a two-time AusAID scholar (ADS/AAS) having completed his Master’s and Doctoral degrees (Tropical Veterinary Science) from James Cook University, Townsville, Queensland, Australia, under the late Prof. Phillip Summers and Dr. Damien Paris, respectively. Dr. Peña specializes on sperm biology with special focus on semen evaluation (CASA), processing, and freezing (LN2). His work on the impact of heat stress on sperm DNA integrity induced by tropical summer, and mitigation using a custom formulated antioxidant supplement (PLoS ONE 14: e0216143) are well cited. His research interests have also expanded on the epidemiological investigations against antibiotic residues, and on-farm biosecurity and herd health management.
Dr. Peña is the current Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, Visayas State University. He currently works on a DOST-PCAARRD-funded project identifying appropriate indices of a superior semen in the Philippine Native boar. While serving as an Associate Editor of the Annals of Tropical Research and Science and Humanities journals, Dr. Peña also chairs the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) of the University.
